Stylish, Sophisticated, Delicious: Stella’s Restaurant and Bar Review

Stella’s atmosphere is ideal for dining; rich wood and brass, seating that makes guests feel enjoyably involved yet secluded enough to make conversation easy, lit-well without being over-lit. The decor is stylish and sophisticated, with a beautiful oak bar, paintings commissioned for the restaurant, wine racks, hand-blown glass work, and several comfortable dining areas.

The service was quite good; efficient and courteous. Our waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable - during the course of dinner and talking with her a bit here and there, we discovered she’d been working at Stella’s since it opened.

To start we had salads and the lobster bisque, which comes embellished with a creme fraiche cursive S.

The food there is delicious and varied. Stella’s has a selection of world cuisines, including French, Spanish, Asian and American. On the menu are several cuts of steak (filet, ribeye, petite New Yorker), which can be accompanied by a selection of steak options like Mushrooms and Onions, Maytag Bleu Cheese, Oscar (crab, asparagus, and Béarnaise), and others. The breadth of the menu ranges from tapas, salads, and sandwiches, to steaks, fresh seafood, and pasta.

We tried the braised short ribs, crab-stuffed shrimp, mahi mahi with tequila lime sauce, and the apple raspberry bourbon chicken. All were done perfectly and tasted terrific.

The desserts are decadent. We had the New York-style cheesecake, the Key Lime pie/cheesecake, and the apple crisp. There were four in our group, lest the wrong idea gets out.

Stella’s has music on weekends, which was, during our visit, live singing with (near as I could tell) pre-recorded jazz. It was pleasant, but not particularly memorable - however, it started as we were wrapping up dinner, so we may not have gotten the full effect.

Overall, our experience at Stella’s was highly satisfying. Stella’s offers excellent American cuisine, comfortable dining, and a wide selection of wines, cocktails, and domestic, imported, and microbrew beers. Please note that seating in the restaurant is somewhat limited, so making a reservation is recommended.

We Recommend

Be sure to try the Key Lime pie/cheesecake.

Bring Your Friends and Share a Meal: Poco Piatti Review

Lyn (Guest Reviewer)

Poco Piatti has some great food, a nice atmosphere, and great servers (well, usually), but it is also fairly expensive to get a meal there that will fill you up.

The secret to Poco is to bring a couple friends, for after all, this is a Tapas restaurant. For those not familiar, this means that most the plates served only include a sampling of the ordered food. You are supposed to order 2-3 of these “small plates” and then share them with friends who, in theory, have done the same
